Before she directed a frame, Aishwarya Rajinikanth was credited on a soundtrack. Two playback recordings, seven years apart, bracket her entry into Tamil cinema — and one of them brought a Filmfare Awards South nomination.

01Recordings
Track 01 — 2003
Her first credit in cinema of any kind. Recorded for D. Imman’s soundtrack to Whistle, released in July 2003, and performed alongside Silambarasan, D. Imman, Uma Mahesh and Roopa Venkat — a friendship song, and an entry point.
Track 02 — 2010
Recorded for G. V. Prakash Kumar’s soundtrack to Selvaraghavan’s Aayirathil Oruvan, with Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah. She was working on the same film as an assistant director and as a dubbing artist — three credits on one production. The recording was nominated at the Filmfare Awards South for Best Female Playback Singer.
02Rhythm
Music in her life predates the recording studio. Her mother, Latha Rangachari, is a singer; her own earliest formal training was in Bharatanatyam, under the dancer and teacher Meenakshi Chitharanjan.
That grounding in classical rhythm has stayed visible — in performance, in her recognition with the Kalaimamani honour by the Government of Tamil Nadu, and in a Bharatanatyam performance at the United Nations headquarters marking International Women’s Day in March 2017.

As a director she has worked with three of Tamil cinema’s most significant composers — and given one of them his first feature.
